This option is perfect for those who don’t have much time to visit Machu Picchu and who want to arrive in a more leisurely fashion than the trekkers.

The train departs from Poroy station in Cusco and takes you on one of the most incredible train journeys in the world to reach the magnificent site of Machu Picchu!!

The views from the Machu Picchu by train are quite spectacular which is why Peru Rail have commissioned the purpose made Vistadome trains to allow you to enjoy the view to it’s full potential.

Itinerary: Machu Picchu by Train

Your Guide will pick you up at 5.45 (to be confirmed) am and take you to the train station – the train leaves at 6.15am(time may change depending on availability and changes to timetable). After a 4-hour journey of majestic views you arrive at Aguas Calientes (Hot Springs Town) where you will spend the night. There will be plenty of time to relax if you want to have a hot bath in the natural springs!!!Things to do:Visit the Machu Picchu ‘Manuel Chávez Ballón’ museum and orchid exhibition. This is open from 9am to 4.30pm and is a 35 minute walk down the road to Puente Ruinas. It is a very illustrative museum that gives an interesting introduction to Machu Picchu. (It’s worth it!)You could go to the thermal baths – these cost 10 soles. There are lockers that you can use to store your belongings (1 sol).

You will have breakfast and then your Guide will pick you up from your hotel (5.40am). You will take the bus up to majestic Machu Picchu to catch the sunrise and then begin your walking tour (approximately 2 hours) with your guide, after this you can explore the mysterious city by yourselves.You will meet your guide in Aguas Calientes (it can be reached by bus or on foot) for lunch and to be given your train tickets back to Cusco. Train included in all tours is the Cerrojo backpacker (to Ollantaytambo) and bus to Cusco.
If desired, an extra night in Aguas Calientes can be arranged. This option is very popular as it allows more time to explore Machu Picchu.

Things to do:
You can climb Huayna Picchu (the mountain behind Machu Picchu). It takes 45 minutes to reach the top and the view from the top over Machu Picchu is worth it. (There is a limit of 400 people who are permitted to climb this, so if you want to do it, it is good to go immediately after your tour.) From the top of this mountain you can also walk down to the Moon Temple (a cave).

It takes 45 more minutes to get there and from there, a further hour walk to get back to Machu Picchu itself.

Walk up to the Sun Gate (45 minutes to 1 hour).

Walk to the Inca Bridge (40 minutes).

Please leave enough time to catch your train. It is a 20-minute bus ride from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes and buses leave when they are full.
It is also necessary to be at the train station in good time (20 minutes before).

If you want to have lunch down in the town, we advise leaving Machu Picchu by 2.30pm. Your train usually leaves at 5pm and you will arrive in Cusco at approximately 9pm. We will pick you up from the station and take you back to your hotel.
